Workshop and Dialogue on “Gender and Law” Resource person: Ms Merly Martis, Director, DEEDS Associates, Mangalore.

Thewomen cell of Besant Evening college in association with the Centre for Women’sStudies, Mangalore University organized a workshop and dialogue on “Gender andLaw” on 30th September, 2019 at M.Com Auditorium. The function beganwith an invocation by Ms Deepa, I M.Com student. Dr Laxminaryan Bhat, Principalof the college welcomed the guests and gathering. Mrs Thara Shetty florallywelcomed the guests. The Chief Guest of the function Dr Anitha Ravishankar,Director, Centre for Women Studies, Mangalore University addressed thegathering and gave brief information about the workshop. Then the session washanded over to the resource person Ms Merly Martis. She explained about thevarious laws available in the constitution for safeguarding the rights of thewomen. She also provided the information regarding the various Acts which arerecently incorporated in order to safe guard the rights of girl children. Shealso explained about various real cases regarding sexual harassment at workplace and their consequences as per law. There was also a discussion variousother issues relating to sexual harassment.The session concluded with theinteraction between students, resource person Ms Merly Martis and Dr AnithaRavishankar
