English is the defacto ofinternational language. It is the national language of 70 countries in theworld and 84% of the global companies deal only in English. It is the languageof the business world, of internet, of media, advertisements and numerous otherfields – said the Guest Faculty of English Prof. Ramachandra Yadapadithaya. Hewas delivering a lecture on the topic ‘Impact of English on Economics’ atBesant Evening College organised by the Department of English on 28th August 2019.. He said, Economics is a social science concerned withproduction, distribution and consumption of goods and services. It studies howindividuals, business, governments and nations make choices on allocatingresources to satisfy their wants and needs. Language, especially English on theother hand is the maintenance of complex system of communication. The Convener of the lecture, Prof. Beedubail GanapathiBhat,H.O.D of English and Dean of the faculty of languages was present. Principal Dr. LakshminarayanaBhat A in his presidentialaddress stressed to the need of learning English for overall economic activityin the global market.
