A Talk on Fundamentals of Research in Social Sciences

The Research and Development Cell ofthe college has organized a talk on the theme “Fundamentals of Research inSocial Sciences” on 06th Oct, 2017 in the M.Com auditorium . Dr E.Geetha, Manipal University was the resource person. Dr Laxminarayana Bhatwelcomed the guest and other participants of the programme. During theoccasion, the 3rd volume of the college journal “Global ResearchReview- Journal of Innovative Research in Commerce and Management” and Collegemagazine- 2016-17 were released. Dr Vasappa Gowda, the convener of R & DCell spoke about the journal. Dr Geetha started her presentation with thedefinition of ‘research’ and why we have to do research and how to go for aqualitative research? By giving the various examples she narrated how researchgoes wrong if we do not plan it properly. She explained about various types ofresearch methods like basic research, applied research, qualitative,quantitative, experimental, correlation, etc. In the process of herpresentation she explained about the cycle of research such as questioning,planning gathering, sorting and sifting, synthesizing, evaluating andreporting. She further explained about the report preparation and presentationpatterns, tips to prepare abstract, presenting objectives, hypotheses,keywords, results and suggestions professionally. The session was aninteractive one and the delegates were very actively participated in the presentation.The programme was attended by our M.Com students, faculty members and facultymembers from other colleges.
