World Students’ Day Celebration and Debate Activity by Commerce Association

On the occasion of World Students’ Day, commemorated every year on 15th October to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Commerce Association of Besant Evening College organized a special debate activity to pay tribute to the beloved former President, teacher, scientist, and student icon.

The event was conducted on Wednesday, 15th October 2025 under the capable guidance of Prof. Mohammad Musthafa, Coordinator of the Professional B.Com program. The activity was well-supported by Mrs. Saritha Reena D’Souza, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, and Mr. G. Harish Pai, Faculty Convener of the Commerce Association.

Debate Topic

“Dreaming or Doing – What Matters More?”

Students from various B.Com classes enthusiastically participated in the debate, showcasing excellent communication skills, critical thinking, and confidence. The topic sparked a healthy exchange of ideas, with participants arguing both sides passionately:

Some students emphasized the importance of dreams in setting goals and inspiring innovation, quoting Dr. Kalam’s famous worlds.

Others stressed the value of action, arguing that without doing, dreams remain unfulfilled. They highlighted that execution and effort are what bring dreams to life.

The debate not only enhanced students’ public speaking abilities but also encouraged them to reflect deeply on the values and vision of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who consistently advocated for the power of education, discipline, and youth leadership.

The event was a fitting tribute to Dr. Kalam's enduring legacy and a successful celebration of World Students' Day. It provided a platform for students to express their thoughts, engage in intellectual discourse, and honor the spirit of student life and responsibility.

The Commerce Association extends heartfelt thanks to all the faculty members, participants, and attendees who contributed to the success of the program.

The activity enhanced students’ communication and critical thinking skills while inspiring them to reflect on the values championed by Dr. Kalam. The event successfully honored his legacy and celebrated the spirit of student leadership and growth.

As a tribute to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the program began with a silent prayer in his memory, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem, honoring his immense contributions to the nation.
