The Orientation Program for first-year B.Com Students

The Orientation Program for the first-year B.Com, Professional and Evening batch students of Besant Evening College, Mangalore, was held on 28 July 2025 in the college auditorium. First-year students, along with their parents, attended the program.

The Principal welcomed the gathering and presented a brief history of the college. Established in 1976 by the Women’s National Education Society, the college has been a pioneer in providing quality higher education, particularly to working students, and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the college has been a preferred choice for students pursuing Chartered Accountancy (CA), as the evening classes enable them to attend coaching sessions and practical training during the day. The academic year 2025–26 marks the Golden Jubilee Year of Besant Evening College, celebrating 50 years of dedicated service in academics, value-based education, and community development.

The Principal guided the students on the rules, regulations, and academic norms of the institution. He also highlighted the various scholarship facilities available, including government scholarships, endowment awards, and fee concessions for meritorious and financially needy students. Students were encouraged to make full use of these opportunities.

He further elaborated on the mission and vision of the college. The mission is to provide accessible and inclusive education that fosters academic excellence, moral integrity, and social responsibility. The vision is to be recognized as a centre of excellence in higher education that nurtures lifelong learning, leadership, and community engagement.

This was followed by an address from the Head of the Department of Commerce Prof.Gopalaraddy Ritti, who motivated the students to set clear academic and career goals, make effective use of departmental resources, and actively participate in curricular and co-curricular activities.

The session concluded with an interactive segment where parents and students clarified their queries regarding academic schedules, facilities, and support services. The program served as a platform to acquaint the newcomers with the rich legacy, ethos, and academic environment of Besant Evening College, inspiring them to contribute to its continued excellence in this milestone year.
