Participation in the Inaugural Ceremony of Indian Red Cross Society “Centenary Building”

The Youth Red Cross (YRC) Unit of Besant Evening College, Mangaluru actively participated in the Inaugural Ceremony of the Indian Red Cross Society “Centenary Building”, organized by the Dakshina Kannada District Branch of Indian Red Cross Society on 26th July 2025 (Saturday) at the IRCS Centenary Building, Old DC Office Compound, Old Port Road, Mangaluru. The programme was held from 12:00 Noon to 01:00 PM.

The inaugural function was graced by the presence of Shri. Thawar Chand Gehlot, Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka & President, Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka State, who officially inaugurated the newly constructed Centenary Building.

The ceremony was presided over by CA. Shantharama Shetty, Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, DK District.Several eminent dignitaries, guests of honour, and members of the Red Cross Society attended the event to mark this historic milestone in the humanitarian journey of the Red Cross in Dakshina Kannada.Mr. G. Harish Pai, YRC Programme Officer of Besant Evening College, represented the institution and participated actively in the ceremony.

Along with him, two YRC student volunteers also attended the programme:

Abhishek (Final Year B.Com) and Lakshman Pai (Second Year B.Com). The participants had the opportunity to witness and be a part of this historic occasion, which highlighted the century-long contributions of the Red Cross Society in serving humanity and promoting humanitarian values.

Outcome & Takeaways:

The programme provided valuable exposure to students on the functioning and contributions of the Red Cross Society in humanitarian service.It instilled in the students a greater sense of social responsibility, volunteerism, and the importance of humanitarian service in society.The inauguration of the Centenary Building symbolized the growth, commitment, and continuity of the Red Cross Movement in Dakshina Kannada, motivating YRC members to actively participate in future initiatives.
