One test, One Step Towards a Drug -Free Campus

The Anti-Drug and Anti-Ragging Cell of Besant Evening College, Mangaluru, organized a Drug Test Programme for students on 21st August 2025 at A.J. Hospital, Mangaluru. The initiative was carried out in coordination with Kadri Police Station and in accordance with the instructions issued by the Government of Karnataka to strengthen the fight against drug abuse among youth.

The programme was conducted under the overall guidance and supervision of Prof. Gopal Raddi Ritti, Head of the Department of Commerce and In-charge Principal of the College. The proceedings were actively coordinated by Dr. Prasanna Kumar M.G., Convener of the Anti-Drug Cell, along with Asst. Prof. Saritha Reena D’Souza, Co-Convener of the Cell and student convener Anirudh Rai third Bcom was also present .Both faculty members accompanied the students during the hospital visit and ensured the smooth conduct of the activity.

The purpose of the programme was multifold:

To create awareness among students about the detrimental effects of drug consumption on health, career, and society.

To provide students with first-hand exposure to preventive measures and medical testing procedures related to substance abuse.

To sensitize students on the seriousness of drug-related issues and the legal as well as disciplinary consequences of indulging in such activities.

To reiterate the institution’s commitment towards maintaining a drug-free and healthy academic environment.

During the programme, students were briefed about the ill-effects of drug addiction, the role of law enforcement in curbing drug-related activities, and the importance of early detection through medical tests. The initiative not only served as a practical learning experience but also encouraged students to take a pledge of responsibility in spreading awareness about the dangers of substance abuse among their peers and society at large.

This event reflected the collective commitment of Besant Evening College towards safeguarding the well-being of students and upholding discipline, integrity, and safety on campus. The cooperation extended by A.J. Hospital authorities and the support from Kadri Police Station were instrumental in making the programme a success.

The Drug Test Awareness Programme concluded with positive feedback from students, who expressed their willingness to remain vigilant, say “No to Drugs,” and contribute towards building a healthy and drug-free society.
