Inauguration Program of the Spoken English Certificate Course organised by Department of English

The Inauguration Program of the Spoken English Certificate Course was organized by Besant Evening College, Mangalore on 15th September at 6.30 p.m. in the Computer Lab.

The program was inaugurated by Srimathi Lalitha G. Mallia, Correspondent of Besant Evening College, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her inaugural address, she emphasized the importance of English as a global language and encouraged students to make full use of the opportunity to improve their communication skills. She also highlighted how spoken English serves as a bridge to career advancement and personal confidence.

The Resource Person of the course, Ms. Reena D’Souza, delivered an insightful speech on the role of communication in everyday life. She underlined that English is not just an academic requirement but also a tool to express ideas effectively in society. She inspired students by sharing practical tips to enhance their speaking skills and urged them to practice consistently.

The program was presided over by the Principal, Dr. Parashram Malagi, who, in his presidential remarks, stressed on the vision of the college in equipping students with practical and professional skills beyond academics. He motivated the students to overcome hesitation and build fluency in spoken English, assuring the continued support of the institution for such skill-development initiatives.

The Coordinator of the Spoken English Certificate Course, Prof. Sushma, introduced the resource person and also shared the vision and objectives of the course. She explained that the course is designed to strengthen vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and presentation skills, while also building confidence for interviews and workplace communication.

On this occasion, the IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Prasanna Kumari MG, also conveyed her best wishes to the students, encouraging them to utilize the course effectively and enhance their overall personality through language proficiency.

The program was also graced by Prof. Gopal Reddy Reddy, Head of the Department of Commerce, whose presence added significance to the event. Around 30 students enrolled for the course, marking an enthusiastic response and reflecting the need for such a program.

The event began with a welcome address by Yellamma of III B.Com and concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Shilpa of III B.Com. The proceedings of the program were emceed by Ms. Tejaswini from IIIBCOM.
