Guest Lecture on “Roots and Wings: The Power of Mother Tongue and the Promise of English”

The Literary Association of Besant Evening College, in association with IQAC, organized a special guest lecture on the occasion of International Mother Languages Day on 24 February 2026 at 6:00 PM in F11.

The programme titled “Roots and Wings: The Power of Mother Tongue and the Promise of English” featured Prof. Madhumathi Raja, Retd. Associate Professor, Department of English, SDM College of Management, as the Chief Guest. In her enlightening address, she highlighted the importance of preserving one’s mother tongue while embracing English as a global language that opens doors to wider opportunities.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Parashuram G. Malage, Principal of the college. In his presidential address, he appreciated the initiative of the Literary Association and encouraged students to value their linguistic roots while striving for academic excellence.

Mrs. Sushma, Convener of the Literary Association, coordinated the programme. Ms. Nishmita, Member of the Literary Association, and Ms. Tejashwini, Student Secretary of the Literary Association, actively assisted in organizing the event. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and proved to be both informative and inspiring.
