Beach Clean-Up Drive by Outreach Cell

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the Outreach Cell of Besant Evening College, Mangaluru, organized a Beach Clean-Up Drive at Tannir Bhavi Beach on 27-09-2025 with the objective of promoting environmental awareness, cleanliness, and sustainable tourism. The program was presided over by Mr. Darshan DC, Mangaluru District, who appreciated the initiative taken by the college in spreading awareness on eco-friendly tourism practices.

The event was coordinated under the guidance of Prof. Saritha Reena D’Souza (Convener, Outreach Cell), along with the support of Prof. Gopal Raddi Ritti (HOD, Department of Commerce), Dr. Prasanna Kumar M.G. (IQAC Coordinator), and Mr. G. Harish Pai (Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce).

The student leadership was taken up by Ms. Nidhishree (III B.Com, Student Convener) and Mr. Saad (I B.Com, Student Member). A total of 65 students from different classes of B.Com enthusiastically participated in the drive. The volunteers collected plastic waste, bottles, wrappers, and other non-degradable materials littered across the beach, thereby contributing to maintaining cleanliness in a popular public space.

Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries emphasized the importance of community participation in environmental protection and highlighted that clean beaches not only enhance tourism but also safeguard marine life. Students actively engaged in the initiative with great enthusiasm and pledged to continue supporting such eco-friendly activities in the future.

The program concluded successfully with a strong message of “Cleanliness for Sustainable Tourism”, reflecting the commitment of Besant Evening College towards environmental responsibility and community service.
