Awareness and Education Programme on Drug Addiction Organised by Anti-Drug Cell

The Anti-Drug Cell of Besant Evening College, Mangalore, in association with the IQAC, organized an Awareness and Education Programme on Drug Addiction on 11th September 2025 at 6:30 PM in the M.Com Auditorium.

The programme was presided over by Mrs. Lalitha Mallya, Correspondent of the college. The Chief Guest of the evening was Mr. Guru Kanthi, Police Sub-Inspector of Urwa Store Police Station, who in his address highlighted the increasing threat of drug addiction among youth, explained various forms of substance abuse, and stressed the need for legal awareness, timely counselling, and de-addiction measures to curb this social evil.

The event was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Prasanna Kumar M.G., Convener of the Anti-Drug Cell & IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Parashurama G. Malage, Principal of the college, and Prof. Saritha Reena D’souza, Member of the Anti-Drug Cell. Their constant encouragement and leadership ensured the effective organization of the programme.

Prof. Gopal Raddi Ritti, Head of the Department of Commerce, also extended his valuable support and guidance in making the event successful.

The programme began with a welcome address by Ms. Jeevanya (I B.Com), followed by the formal proceedings. The session was compered by Ms. Manya (II B.Com), who conducted the programme with confidence and clarity. At the end, the Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mr. Anirudh Rai (III B.Com, Student Secretary), who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, dignitaries, faculty, and students for their presence and support.

The importance of adopting healthy alternatives and positive lifestyles.

Their role as responsible youth in spreading awareness against substance abuse.

The programme successfully created awareness and motivated students to stay away from drugs, while also encouraging them to act as ambassadors for a drug-free society.

OUTCOME: The Awareness and Education Programme on Drug Addiction at Besant Evening College was highly informative, inspiring, and impactful. With the valuable insights shared by the Chief Guest, strong guidance from the management and faculty, and enthusiastic student participation, the programme achieved its objective of sensitising the youth towards the ill effects of drug abuse and strengthening the college’s mission of nurturing responsible and socially conscious citizens.
